S\u00f3lo en Estados Unidos, 13 fabricantes de autom\u00f3viles han anunciado planes para gastar m\u00e1s de 75.000 millones de d\u00f3lares en abrir plantas de fabricaci\u00f3n de veh\u00edculos el\u00e9ctricos en seis estados.<br><br>Desde el punto de vista del medio ambiente, estas cifras son obviamente magn\u00edficas. Pero el aumento de los veh\u00edculos el\u00e9ctricos tambi\u00e9n conlleva ciertos riesgos. Pero, \u00bfc\u00f3mo se incendia exactamente un coche el\u00e9ctrico? Los veh\u00edculos el\u00e9ctricos funcionan con una bater\u00eda que debe cargarse de vez en cuando. La mayor\u00eda de los incendios de veh\u00edculos el\u00e9ctricos surgen cuando la bater\u00eda se est\u00e1 cargando. Cuando una celda de la bater\u00eda se sobrecalienta, puede entrar en un proceso llamado \u00abfuga t\u00e9rmica\u00bb. Una vez que una bater\u00eda de litio est\u00e1 en llamas, es muy dif\u00edcil de apagar. Esto se debe a que las bater\u00edas de iones de litio reaccionan ferozmente al agua.
