How to control lithium fires in e-bikes and e-scooters
Control fires in e-bikes and e-scooters – More and more often we hear that electric bikes and scooters cause fires because of their lithium batteries. You may think that the impact of an e-bike or e-scooter fire is less severe than an ev-car fire, but the danger lies in the fact that most people store their bikes and scooters in the house.
According to the spokesman for the Zaanstreek Waterland Safety Region, he is getting more and more reports of fires caused by electric bike batteries. Back in 2019, RTL News in the Netherlands already wrote that an average of two fires a week are caused by electric bicycle batteries.
Fire Isolator comes with Fire Blanket for e-bikes and e-scooters
For this reason, and the fact that our Fire Blankets for EV-cars are becoming more and more popular all over the world, we decided to create a special (smaller) Fire Blanket to isolate lithium fires in e-bikes and e-scooters. These new Fire Blankets come in 2×2 meters and 3×3 meters, but feel free to ask us about other available sizes as well. Our smaller Fire Blankets can also be used for other smaller electric fires caused by lithium batteries. Just like our regular Fire blanket, the blanket will not kill the fire in the battery, but it will provide control of the situation and make sure the fire doesn’t spread.
How to use the Fire Blanket
When trying to control a Lithium-Ion battery fire, water-based extinguishers will provide a cooling effect, but these devices are not able to put out the fire. Just water is simply not enough. The batteries are too hot and can even reignite again after a while. So the question is: How to control lithium fires in e-bikes and e-scooters?
That is why a special Fire Blanket for e-bikes and e-scooters is the best way to control and isolate a lithium battery fire. Our blanket is temperature resistant up to 1600 °C, and is easy to place over smaller electric vehicles like e-bikes and e-scooters.
