The Fire Isolator EV Fire Gun (FI-FIREGUN) is a professional, completely insulated (up to 1,000V) firefighting tool developed specifically for electric vehicle (EV) battery fires. It is designed to penetrate the battery housing of an electric vehicle and inject water directly into the battery pack, targeting the heat source at its core. It has been successfully deployed in real-life EV fires several times now in Scandinavia and Spain.

Unlike traditional EV firefighting methods that rely on large volumes of water applied externally, the EV Fire Gun addresses the problem from the inside. By delivering up to 40 liters of water per minute at 2 bar directly into the battery casing, the tool effectively cools the lithium-ion cells internally and helps mitigate thermal runaway. Designed specifically for EV battery incidents, the tool is fully insulated up to 1,000V and built for safe use in high-risk environments.

The Fire Isolator EV Fire Gun battery penetration technology enables rapid and effective cooling of overheated battery cells. By creating an internal flow of water, the cooling of the affected area can be reached, preventing propagation, which is the chain reaction from a thermal runaway in one cell to another.

Safety & your EV fire response protocol

When responding to incidents involving damaged electric vehicles, electrical safety must be treated as a primary concern.

After a crash, it is often difficult to determine whether the high-voltage battery remains fully intact. Even if the main switch has been disconnected, the battery itself may still be energized. In situations of uncertainty, responders should assume that any part of the vehicle could potentially carry voltage.

Because verifying the presence of voltage in an operational environment is complex and not always reliable, responders should avoid attempting control measurements unless performed by properly qualified personnel. Instead, operations should proceed under the assumption of possible live voltage, using appropriate PPE, insulated tools, and insulating protective measures in line with EN 50110-1.

Crews should also remain alert to warning signs of battery instability, such as fumes, unusual sounds, or sparks, and maintain awareness of the conventional 12V system. When deploying tools such as the Fire Isolator EV Fire Gun, correct handling procedures, including proper body positioning and use of support handles, are essential to prevent avoidable physical injuries.
