Test report: Water Mist Lance

The solution to isolate EV car fires

Test report: Water Mist Lance

Water Mist Lance test

On Saturday, February 26th, a live test of the Water Mist Lance was performed by the T-ISS team. This test was performed together with professional firefighters.

You can see the test results of the Water Mist Lance test in the video below.

The Water Mist Lance is part of the FIRE⚡️ISOLATOR concept for controlling and fighting EV car fires. The lance has the ability to penetrate and flood EV car lithium batteries to cool down the batteries in case of fire. However, based on our own experiences and best practices, we advise to use the water mist lance as a way to spray a water mist over the blanket while it is on the burning EV. By doing this, the water mist makes the blanket even more dense, which increases the effect of the aerosol units. The ‘heavier’ and more dense the blanket is, the more confined the space is where the aerosol unit is active, meaning that leakage of the aerosol cloud is minimal.

This solution for creating water mist inside confined spaces is simple to operate. At the same time, it is very effective. For example, the use of the lance and hammer is very easy. You can simply follow the instructions in the manual. The Water Mist Lance is made of stainless steel and the top shaft was PE-coated to prevent Electric shock. When connected to the water supply, the lance will produce a water mist inside the container or lithium battery pack. Additionally, the shaft is variable in length from 500mm up to a max of 1350mm.

SOLAS regulations II-2/10.7.3

According to the regulations, vessels built on or after January 1, 2016, and designed to carry containers on or above the weather deck, must carry at least one water mist lance. The T-ISS Water Mist Lance & Penetration Hammer are designed to meet the requirements in SOLAS regulations II-2/10.7.3 for extinguishing fires inside confined spaces, such as fires in containers.
